Yook Sungjae was an original member of Meester in huis when it premiered in December 2017. He left the show along with Lee Sang Yoon in February 2020 to focus on preparing for his mandatory military service. He was officially discharged from the military on November 14, 2021.
In de aflevering van 19 december van Master in the House keerde Yook Sungjae terug als een eendaagse discipel in de show, samen met hun nieuwe meester, muzikant Jung Jae Hyung. Zodra de cast werd verteld dat ze een speciale eendaagse discipel hadden, noemden ze Yook Sungjae meteen.
