In 2007 maakte hij de overstap van zijn werk als reclamemodel naar acteur. Hij maakte zijn debuut in een korte film, Fragile in Love (2007), en volgde daarna met een hoofdrol in de film Miao Miao (2008). Hij werd beroemd toen hij een hoofdrol speelde in het idooldrama Autumn's Concerto (2009), gevolgd door drama's als Jhong Wu Yan (2010) en Local Hero (2011). Al met al werd hij geprezen om zijn frisse, natuurlijke maar toch gespannen stijl met het vermogen om diverse karakters uit te beelden.
In 2012 speelde Chris Wu voor het eerst de mannelijke hoofdrol in een idooldramaserie, What is Love, en speelde vervolgens samen met Nikki Hsieh en James Wen in Substitute Princess in 2013. Hij bleef ook de hoofdrol spelen in films. zoals Star of Bethlehem in 2013. Hij wordt beschouwd als een van de opkomende acteurs van Taiwan met een enorm potentieel. Hoewel hij nu een ster is, heeft hij een bescheiden stijl behouden en zei hij dat zijn grootste wens het kopen van een huis voor zijn moeder is.
Na een pauze te hebben genomen, heeft Chris opnieuw een relatie met zijn 'The Perfect Match'-co-ster Ivy Shao.
